Drama & Dance
Term 1
- Dramatic Recital of Poetry
- Students are to pick 2 poems - an 8 line poem & a 12 line poem. These poems can be of any type and do not need to rhyme. They need to be
published poems.
- Students will be expected to memorize the poems and recite
them dramatically, in costume, with props to the class. The skills objective
is to enact, rehearse, and present drama works based on poems.
- Students will
be evaluated. Students are encouraged to use the
Poetry Recital Evaluation Form
as a guideline as they prepare for their performance.

- Optional Activity - time permitting
Dramatic Reading Aloud of a Short Story - 1 to
5 minutes maximum
- Students are to choose a story to read aloud expressively to the class.
- A familiar picture book like those written by Robert Munsch works
well.
- While reading to the class, the student is encouraged to be in costume
and to have props related to the story.
- The student is not expected to show the class the pictures in the
story while reading it.
- Fluency and expressive reading as well as projection or voice are all
important.
Term 2
- Medieval Feast &
Presentation Role-Playing
- Medieval Feast Entertainment
- Presentation of Light, Sound & Colour Experiment Demonstration to Grade 3s
- Public Speaking Tour - Kindergarten to grade 3
- Harmonica Performances
Term 3
- Historical Fiction Monologue
- Student are expected to read a Historical Fiction novel by term 3. They are
to select one of the main characters from this novel and write a 1 to 2
page script, or monologue which they will then read to the class. They
are to write and present this monologue in the first person.
