GOMBOC
or Dumplings – from Nyusza
3 large Kaiser Buns – day old is best – cut into 1/4” cubes
3” x 3” x 1” thick rasher of smoked bacon (mostly fat)
4 XL eggs or 6 large
6 tblsp flour
5 tsp. salt
1/2 c. milk
Fry out bacon, reserve fat, (rind is dog treat) and mix with bread cubes on
large cookie sheet.
Broil till golden brown on all sides. Place in large bowl; add milk to soften.
Beat eggs till frothy; add flour and salt and continue beating till smooth.
Add to bread and milk, toss and let stand for 1 hour.
Place bowl of cold water nearby to keep hands cold and wet; form 1 1/2” dia.
dumplings by hand.
Place all dumplings in large pot of boiling water (with a pinch of salt and 1
tblsp. butter) at the same time
and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, until cooked to the center.
Place in glass dish with a little cream or whipping cream on the bottom and
store covered overnight.
*NOTE* - MAKE THE DAY BEFORE USE!
Serve with Pork roast or “Vadas Hus”.
