The GMB Family Workshop          GMB Toys & RAINBOW KIDS

One of a Kind, Handcrafted Wooden Toys made in Richmond Hill, Ontario,  Canada

Who We Are

GMB Toys is a family run business located in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. Our wooden Rocking Toys are all handmade under one roof in our GMB Family Workshop.  Our family inspires us & is a part of everything we do.

The workshop is headed up by Nicholas, our resident grandfather and retired architect. Making use of his design training, artistic abilities and lifelong love of woodworking, Nicholas designs our one of a kind creations and is the principal craftsman.

Elfi, the enthusiastic Oma, is the driving force behind may of the projects as she enjoys playing with a new generation of GMBs.

Our Workshop

Our Toys are all made under one roof. Our well equipped workshop is set up to allow us to work on more than one project at a time although we do not mass produce anything. We use local material whenever possible and incorporate reclaimed lumber in some of our projects. We make use of environmentally friendly products and finishes.

We support local businesses and are please to serve clients in the Greater Toronto Area. Although we have been known to ship our creations across the continent, most of our customer base is in Southern Ontario.

Our Philosophy

We do this because we love working with wood and making things. We believe if something is worth doing, then it is worth doing well. We started out in this business by making a Rocking Buckskin Pony for our first grandchild. It was love at first sight for all of us, so we started making Rocking Toys for other special children. Before we knew it, we were being asked to make more and different wooden toys and so here we are. We love what we do and it shows in our product. Life is too short not to follow your dreams.

Working from our Woodworking Plans

If you are a woodworker who has purchased our Plans to build, please follow all safety requirements for the tools you use. The plans and instructions assume a basic level of skills in woodworking and related safety requirements when using power tools. We would like for you to be building wonderful things for years to come ;-) Please also keep in mind that construction materials and finishes need to take into account the final use of the items built. For the sake of your precious little ones, be sure that the finish on your rocking toys are non-toxic. It's amazing what little kids will chew on!

Ordering a GMB Toy & Custom Orders

Placing an order: We basically only make our toys when someone orders them. Generally we do not have any stock items for sale. If you come across something of ours that you would like, then contact us and we will make it for you. Because we always have something on the go, you will need to let us know about 6 weeks before the date that you want your toy so that we can fit it in our schedule.

Hand-Crafted One At A Time: Because we make our Rocking Toys one at a time, you will be able to customize some of the the finishing details should you desire to do so. Realize also that each Rocking Toy is slightly different from others, even from the same design, because of the crafting process.

Pick Up: Once your toy is completed, you will be invited up to the workshop to pick it up. We are conveniently located at Yonge & Highway 407, just north of Toronto in Richmond Hill. Generally we can suit your schedule between the hours of 8 am and 8 pm.

Payment: Expect to pay a 30% deposit when the order is placed. We accept personal cheques or PayPal. The balance of the purchase price is due when your order is ready.

Custom Orders: If there is a Rocking Toy you would like, perhaps an animal you adore or your favourite pet, and you can't find it anywhere- then we're the place for you! Our chief craftsman Nicholas will research and design a rocker just for you. If you take a look at our other animal designs, you will agree that he has an eye for detail and the ability to translate an animal's traits into a wooden Rocking Toy. Each order is different depending on the complexity of the design and the amount of research required.

Customer Satisfaction  When you order your Rocking Toy, you will receive a finely handcrafted wooden toy that will last for generations. We design and make all of the items we sell. You will not find these designs elsewhere. Because our toys are made by hand, they are all slightly different. We want you, our customer, to be fully satisfied with your Rocking Toy. Should there be a defect in workmanship that becomes apparent after normal usage, please contact us so that we may fix it.

Construction Guarantee  Our wooden Rocking Toys are beautifully designed, durable, well constructed and will last long enough to become a treasured family heirloom.

Our small Rocking Toys are intended for toddlers who are able to maintain their balance. They are suitable for young children although we have caught our teens still sitting on them :-) They are built strongly enough that even adults of medium build could safely sit on them with no risk of breaking.

Our full size Rocking Toys are intended for children from the ages of 3 and up. They are constructed in order to take the weight of a 200 lb. adult even though the children may object to sharing their toys with you ;-)

Quality Always We use quality, kiln or air dried dried lumber and quality finishes. The final finish consists of several clear coats of hand buffed durable urathane.

Our construction involves assembly that makes extensive use of glue and dowels. We reinforce areas with hardwood dowels to prevent breakage along the grain and due to torque. We construct our toys using a variety of cabinetwork connectors, all hidden by plugs or dowels to maximize strength and final appearance.

These toys have been built for indoor use. The finish is not intended to withstand moisture or rain although it can be wiped down during cleaning.

Warranties We warrant that our Rocking Toys are free of defect in materials, construction or workmanship. They are built to withstand rugged children's play. Should any problems occur, then please contact us immediately. If we are responsible, then we will make the repair at no cost.

Occasionally toys get damaged because of accidents. If this is the case, we would be happy to repair your treasured toy at a reasonable cost. Contact us for an estimate.

We know that you will take care of this toy. The finish is made to be durable but may need to be touched up if loved too vigorously for too long. If that happens, just contact us and we can quote you on the cost of a "facelift".

Return Policy for GMB Toys
Should there be a defect in your toy which is as a result of a material flaw, return the rocker to us and we will fix it at no charge. Returns for other reasons will not be accepted.

SAFETY FIRST

Being parents ourselves, we know how precious your little ones are to you and we know that you share our concern about safety. Toddlers should not be left unattended even if they are enjoying playing on the rockers. Vigorous rocking will move the rocking toy so these toys should not be used close to breakable objects that could be bumped or near stairs where your child could fall. All of our edges are rounded or eased to prevent injury. Children should never be allowed to stand or kneel on the seat of the rocker or use the rocker as a step ladder.
