Making Heirloom Rocking Toys

Some prior woodworking experience required.

In this 3 session
workshop, participants will be guided through the process of
building a simple rocking horse / giraffe or unicorn. Starting
with 2" softwood lumber, participants will cut, assemble and
finish a rocking toy suitable for a toddler. Participants will
get to use a variety of equipment including a miter saw, plug
cutter, band saw, scroll saw, drill press, belt sander and
router, while making an heirloom toy. |

Toy Making for
Beginners – Wooden Puzzles

7 hrs.
Suitable for beginners with
little or no prior experience.

In this workshop,
participants will learn to use basic power tools while
completing 3 wooden animal puzzle toys. This beginner course
will include the use of a band saw, scroll saw, post sander,
router, drill press, cordless drill and electric sanders.
This course is designed for people who are interested in
woodworking because they would like to make quality wooden
toys.

Elfi Berndl has had a love for
“mucking about” and making things since childhood. She is currently
still teaching children in elementary school but is actively involved in
the GMB Toys Family Workshop in her spare time. She enjoys carving and
creating interesting useful items from found objects in her workshop.
Elfi has co- presented several Toy Making Seminars at Lee Valley
Tools and is the inspiration behind new toy development at GMB Toys. |
Nicholas Gere, a retired architect and community college teacher, has
turned his artistic design talents and love for working with wood into a
second career. He founded GMB Toys in 1999 and has been designing toys
ever since. He has given a number of Toy Making Seminars at Lee
Valley Tools and his creations can be seen at
GMB Toys.
