GMB Workshops

Woodworking

Not only do we love working with wood, we also love teaching. You will find us giving woodworking seminars in the Greater Toronto Area from time to time. Seminars can be arranged for small clubs, recreation centers and adult lifestyle community centers.

Rocking Giraffe for Toddlers

In this 3 session workshop, participants will be guided through the process of building a simple rocking giraffe. Starting with 2" softwood lumber, participants will cut, assemble and finish a rocking toy suitable for a toddler. Participants will get to use a variety of equipment including a miter saw, plug cutter, band saw, scroll saw, drill press, belt sander and router, while making an heirloom toy.

Rocking Pony & Unicorn for Toddlers

In this 3 session workshop, participants will be guided through the process of building a simple rocking horse or unicorn. Starting with 2" softwood lumber, participants will cut, assemble and finish a rocking toy suitable for a toddler. Participants will get to use a variety of equipment including a miter saw, plug cutter, band saw, scroll saw, drill press, belt sander and router, while making an heirloom toy.

Carbide-Tipped Lathe Tools

Nicholas Gere will lead you through the creation of a carbide tipped lathe tool using an exotic or a figured wood, such as Jatoba, Lacewood or Curly, Birdseye or Spalted Maple. You will be shaping the wood blank to suit your hand size and taste. You will be drilling your handle and installing the stainless steel shank and carbide tip. Not only will you leave the course with a fully functional custom made lathe tool, you will have gained the knowledge & confidence to make others on your own.

Basic spindle turning techniques, use of deep vertical drilling jig, gun metal bluing, how to glue up your own multi-piece wood blanks will be discussed &/or demonstrated. All participants will take home a useable full sized carbide tipped lathe tool.

Pull Toys for Toddlers

In this workshop, participants will learn to use basic power tools while completing a pull toy. This beginner course will include the use of a band saw, scroll saw, post sander, drill press, cordless drill and electric sanders. This course is designed for people who are interested in woodworking because they would like to make quality wooden toys.

Wooden Animal Puzzles

In this workshop, participants will learn to use basic power tools while completing 3 wooden animal puzzle toys. This beginner course will include the use of a band saw, scroll saw, post sander, router, drill press, cordless drill and electric sanders. This course is designed for people who are interested in woodworking because they would like to make quality wooden toys.
